FIVE ANTWERP DUCATONS

This study presents the silver piece known as “five ducatons”, which originally formed part of the coin collection of King Luís I, and is now part of the Museu Casa da Moeda's (Portuguese Mint Museum) collection. This piece was minted in 1653 in Antwerp, The Netherlands, during the reign of Felipe IV of Spain, for the purpose of integrating it into the monetary system created by the Spanish empire for the northern Europe territories
