Popular Traditions in Portugal
Did you know that in 1927 the National Geographic magazine published photographs of Viana do Castelo's costume? And that, during the Middle Ages, were there many men skilled in embroidery?
Through this book you will be able to know better some stories around these and other traditions. In six chapters we talk about the Minho collections, the Northeastern yokes, the embroideries of Castelo Branco, the figure of Barcelos, the Northeast carriages and the granaries.
Written by Vera Marques Alves and illustrated by Carolina Celas, it was these six themes that the National Press-Casa da Moeda, along with the National Museum of Ethnology, chose to give shape to a collection of coins inaugurated in 2013, which gave the name of "Portuguese Ethnography".
The overcover becomes a fantastic poster that illustrates some of the objects that are part of the imaginary of the Country with the location from where they were produced.
